G for St George's Hall Liverpool.

Night time shot of the Hall.

shot of the magnificent hall and orga

St George's Hall stands on a plateau in the centre of the City of Liverpool. It is widely recognised by
Architectural historians who regard it as one of the finest neo- Grecian buildings in the world. In 2004 the hall and surrounding area were recognised as part of Liverpool's World Heritage Site.

This picture is of the main hall, looking down to the magnificent organ. The floor is composed of over 30,000 Minton tiles.

Above is the Dance Hall, with such a beautiful ceiling.

Cleaners carefully restoring a very precious and valuable floor. The floor is mainly covered by a removable floor to protect it. The interior of the hall is considered to be one of the greatest created by Sharples and Pollard.

The almost circular Concert Room was lavishly decorated and was often used by Charles Dickens, when he gave his Penny Recitals to the poor people of Liverpool.

My sincere thanks to Denise, Roger, Leslie and all the ABCW team, withoout their GOOD and GREAT efforts this remarkable meme would not operate.

My Best Wishes,
 and kind regards,
to each and every one ABCw contributor.

    1. Hi Amit,
It is well worth a visit, when i was a child the grand steps and plateau were always a place for 'grandstanding, political, religious and most importantly... Remembrance for the fallen of several futile wars...
Good to hear from you my friend,

  5. My Goodness, what an incredibly Gorgeous building, Di! I so admire and appreciate these buildings with their rich architecture and even richer history. Thank you, also, for your wonderful comments on your readers' posts. I don't know how you manage your time so efficiently. Your Gentle hint in your last comment was especially appreciated, though I seem powerless to improve my poor time management skills. I'm aiming for a post tomorrow but it would be nothing short of a miracle to achieve that.

    1. Hi Carol,
good to hear from you.It is anincredible building and I've had the pleasure of singing there and being part of a business convention and a political rally too!
I am able to spend time wriiting as I am unable to get around much as i have Rheumatoid Arthritis which has damahed my spine, so the brain works (I think) but the legs don't! I have a wondeful caring husband so we get along doing what we can do and not worrying about what we can't.
      Best Wishes,

    2. Hi Trubes.. I am sorry you have Rheumatoid Arthritis as I have an idea how painful it can be through my observations of a couple of my friends. How wonderful that you have such a dear, caring husband. I am also so happy to know you are a singer (somehow, I had missed that in other posts) and what an incredible experience it must have been to sing in St. George's Hall. I tried but totally failed to heed your kind advice in your last comment, so I hope, if you do make it to my post, that you just browse a couple of spots that interest you and please do not worry about commenting. I will get it together one of these days. I hope!! :)

    1. Hi Leslie,
I really thought the 'hop on hop off' tour took you to St Georges Hall;It is open to the public quite often but your not allowed to walk on the tiles there is a walk way around the floor for viewing but you can go into the concert room where Charles Dicken gave his famous 'Penny Readings...
      Love Di xxx
I wish I was fit enough to take you around these places grrr,!

  15. What a magnificent building inside and out. I would be afraid just to walk on the floor.

  16. Hi Carin,
It is a fabulous building the floor has a cover of wood which to all intents and purposes just looks like and sometimes is used as a dance floor or set up for banquets weddings, and business conventions etc.
It is open to the public from time to time, then there is a raised walkway so people may view it without stepping on the wonderful mosaics.
    Best wishes,
    Di.
