T stands for Trees and Tall Ships.

I love trees and woodland. I live in a leafy part of Liverpool a large city in the UK.  We are lucky to be surrounded by landscaped Parks and beautiful woodlands,  The trees in the two photographs below are taken in the woods across the road from where we live. Although we live on a main road leading into the city, the avenue is resplendent in the springtime when the beautiful apple and cherry blossom trees burst into bloom. There are various forms of wild life including foxes, a snowy owl, woodpeckers, some beautifully marked thrush and kestrels, Two herons have been spotted recently.

A baby thrush looking a bit startled, so cute !

The Tall Ships Race.

In the summer of this year The Tall Ships came to Liverpool and what a spectacle it was, thousands of visitors lined the docks to see them, it was a wonderful regatta with sailors singing sea shanties and singers giving concerts on board the ships. The famous Albert Dock was overcome with tourist from all over the world to see the spectacle , There wasn't a spare hotel room in the city, So wonderful for the economy of the City.

The Liver buildings in the background, on the wonderful Liverpool waterfront,  with a Liver bird on each tower.

My thanks to the terrific Denise for devising ABCW and the tenacious Roger for his administrative skills..

  3. So good that cities set aside places for trees and parklands. These are lovely, - wherever the tall ships go they create such enthusiasm and wonder!!

  8. You live in so beautiful surroundings with woodland!
I also love the tallships they are reminders of a past that was so full of adventures, persuation and inventions. My father always said: "those were the times of wooden ships and iron men, now we have iron ships and wooden men...!"
Although I don't agree quite with him about the last remark.
You said that I was a veritable mine of information,ha, ha.. My information comes from Wikipedia and Google. But thank you for your kind comment.
    Have a lovely week.

  9. Would that be Sefton Park perchance? Our son lived near there for a short time but I always remember all the daffodils around Aigburth.

  11. Hi Roger,
we do get an enormous amount of leaves in our front garden and back garden.
I got so tired of my husband complaining about it that I hired a gardener to clear them.
    He still complains !
But the benefit of the gardener is that they talk football and drink tea, which stops the complaining!

    Best wishes, Di. xx

  19. Hello Wil,
As always, so good to hear from you again, I always look forward to your comments.
I smiled at your father's philosophy on sailing vessels, so profound !
Well of course we all use Wikipedia such a useful tool for research, although it's not always 'to the letter', so I always try to write a out something I know.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    love Di x

  20. Gerald:
No not Sefton Park that is a 7 minute drive from where we live but the daffodils are quite lovely in the spring, they were originally planted from a local hospice for cancer patients and cancer research.
It's called The Field of Hope.
    Thanks for dropping by,
    Best wishes,
    Di.

  21. My husband is from Liverpool. I taught in Kirkby for a year. Liverpool has sure changed a lot over the years. Could that possibly be Stanley Park?

  22. Tall ships are so amazing. It must have been quite an adventure when they were the only means of transportation. - Margy

  23. Hi Chris,
Not Stanley Park but some woodland where we live in South Liverpool, Stanley Park is North of the city. We have Calderstone and Sefton Parks nearby.

  24. Hi Margy,
    Thanks for stopping by.
Yes tall ships all look mysterious and romantic but I believe it is jolly hard work to sail one,
We had a demonstration of the crew raising and securing the sails, on the quayside it took about twenty of them to do it.
It was amazing, they were scaling up and down the masts
    like monkeys.
It looked difficult enough on the Quayside, so Lord knows what it would be like in rough seas.

    Best wishes,
    Di.

  26. we have tall trees in school. The PTA decided they like kids to climb trees, but some kids climb too high. I had to tell a group of them this week to come down.

There was a discussion on our radio waves about schools with no rules. There should be a limit.

  27. Hi Anne, good to hear from you again.
I like living where we are because we have many choices for relaxation and holidays. As you know we are only a short drive away from many of the lovely seaside towns and beaches in Wales, we're on the doorstep to The lake District and The Peak District. if we don't feel like driving there is the choice of the pretty wood opposite or Calderstones Park a 10 min walk away.
If I had the choice I would live by the seaside but of course, family come first.

    Love Di.

  28. Hello Ann Chen Jie X:
Thank you for dropping by and your comments.
I am surprised that your pupils are allowed to climb trees, that would never be allowed in the UK, too many health and safety busybodies. The teacher's aren't even allowed to put a sticking plaster on a grazed knee here! Crazy I know but true!
I would be worried if I was supervising a group of children climbing a tree, that does spell danger to me!

    best wishes,
    Di.

  31. Hi Trubes, just a note about the felling of the large tree to come in the future. The high fire risk in our area means that wood fires are not a priority and maybe a liability. I imagine it will likely be chipped and used as mulch. Thanks for commenting. Will visit tomorrow :)
