N stands for...East Neuk.

East Neuk  comprises of little fishing villages of the most northerly part of the Firth of Forth, (estuary or Firth of Scotland's River Forth).  Neuk  is the Scots word for  Nook or corner.

The town of St Andrews.

We stayed in the town of St Andrews which is home to The Royal  and Ancient St Andrews Golf Club, world renown for staging  'The Open'.

The University of St Andrews

St Andrews is also home to one of the finest University's in the UK.  Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge met and studied at the university.

William and Catherine revisited the university after their marriage... I wonder if Prince George will go there ?

On East Neuk is the pretty little fishing village called Anstruther, we would watch the local fishermen land their catch on the edge of the harbour. The Anstruther Fish bar is voted as producing the best Fish and Chips in the UK. They have won several awards. We can vouch for that, definitely the finest we've tasted on our trips around the UK.....Absolutely delicious! Needless to say all the fish  they sell are straight out of the waters around The East Neuk.

We would  also buy fresh crabs and langoustines from the fishermen on the quay

Scottish Crab and lobster are landed by the brightly coloured fishing boats in Anstruther harbour.

The famous bridges spanning The Firth of Forth. This is a direct link from Edinburgh  at South Ferry to Fife at North Queensferry.

The  Forth Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge.

My thanks to the magical Denise for creating ABCW and also to Roger for making it happen. Not forgetting the Merry band of helpers too.

  2. Flowerpot, hello!
Scotland is a most amazing part of the British Isles, we've travelled up the West Coast and the East Coast, also to the Highlands, taking in Balmoral and The Cairngorms, such breath taking scenery!
    You must go !

  5. Hi Ellen, you'd just love it.
my husband is a keen golfer and goes with his buddies on an annual golfing weekend each year.
When we visited he insisted on showing me around a few of the famous golf courses, including The Royal St Andrews, it was so interesting, the clubhouse goes back to the 1400's,
We had lunch there, quite an honour, but my darling is a former club captain he is allowed to wine and dine his lady wife there.....I bet you good folk across the pond must smile at our stuffy ways... I do !

    Best wishes,
    Di,ABCW team,

  7. Scotland is just as beautiful as Norway, but the architecture is quite different.
I enjoyed reading your introductions about Greece and Turkey. Yes, your entries and mine are linked because of St Paul and St Luke.I now realise how important blogging is. Thanks for all your beautiful photos and entries.
    Have a great sunny week.

  14. Each time I drop by here I learn something new. Neuk - Nook this time :-). There's actually a vote on the best Fish n Chips! The fresh fish could be their secret ingredient.

  15. OK, the pictures of crab, etc., are making me hungry. NO FAIR! ha ha ha

Fun stuff. We watch the Open every year (and yes, even though we are Americans, we called it "the Open," not "the British Open," as many are wont to do!) so we love St. Andrews. Something about links golf that's most appealing, no designing courses for the founders of the game! Amy

  17. Tulika,
    Glad to be of service!
I too have learned so much since I've had the pleasure of contributing and reading posts on ABCW.
You're quite correct in saying the freshness of the fish makes for the star quality of the fish.
    Thanks for your comments,

  18. Sharp little pencil:
Good to hear from you again, most appreciated.
We had a lobster from one of the fishermen and his wife kindly prepared it for us, I didn't think I could cope with a live creature.
Anyway, it was delicious. I served it with a crunchy green salad and crispy chips.
We watch a lot of golf on TV, which is enjoyable.

  20. Hi Su-sieee,
Good to hear from you again and thanks for your commenting.
It is a lovely part of Scotland but I wouldn't like to live there as they have some wickedly cold winters, especially with the harsh winds that blow from the north sea. But lovely to visit particularly in Autumn when the colours are changing, quite spectacular!
    Best wishes,

  21. Where in St. Andrews is your Picture #5?

I'm a graduate of the place and maybe my memory is going but I don't recognise that building at all.
