C stands for CATS

I just love cats they are so cute! As so many people know I have a much loved cat called 'Princess Chloe'. She is the light of my life, wherever I am in the house she is never far from my side, except when she slopes off to a suitable warm place for her afternoon nap. When I am tapping away on my keyboard she curls up on my lap, occasionally making her input by tapping the keyboard.

Princess Chloe aged 13 years.

Famous Cats.

T. S. Lewis. wrote the most enchanting stories about Cats, his book called

'Old Possums Book of Practical  Cats'

was turned into a musical and called CATS which was a smash hit worldwide.

Who can forget the celebrated singer and actress, Elaine Page's wonderful performance of   'Memory' in Cats'.

This recording launched her into a fabulous, enduring career, she went on to star in Evita,  Chess  and many more wonderful Lloyd Webber music.

Macavity by T S Lewis.

Macavity is a mystery cat : he's called the hidden paw -

For  he's the master CRIMINAL  who can defy the law.

He's the bafflement of Scotland yard, the Flying Squad's despair.

For when they reach the scene of CRIME - Macavity's not there!

And they say that all the CATS who's wicked deeds are widely known

( I might mention Mungojerrie, I might mention Griddlebone)

Are  nothing more than agents for the cat who all the time

just controls their operations the Napoleon of crime!

( 1st and last verse)

This is part of T S Lewis's .

Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

My thanks to the creative Denise for devising ABCW and the careful Roger for being the administrator, also not forgetting all the little helpers in the team, Wil, Gattina, Joy Leslie, (come back soon leslie we miss you), Pheno  et al,

All good wishes to my new found friends in ABCW, and hoping to make many more, from Di  xx

  1. We had cats too , unfortunately they both passed away now and my poor mum in law had to have her cat put to sleep last week as he was suffering from fits .. Mum in law is ok now. YOu couldn't have them suffer.

My hubby really wants another cat but he has to give up travelling first. :-) so that is never then.

    take care xoxo

  2. Hi Anne ,
good to hear from you again, glad your mum in law is recovering from her loss.
I can't believe Chloe is almost 14, we've never had such an aged cat, We've lost two on the main road outside and for that reason she primarily a house cat.
She will go out in the garden at the back of the house but only if we're around, she's a scaredy cat, frightened of her own shadow!
Hope life is good with you,
    love Di xx

  3. An affectionate cat is a lovely companion, and I am so lucky to have such a dear animal to brighten my days, - she was my husband's cat, but has transferred her affections now we are alone.

  10. Hi Di! I am a real catlover! We once had two adult cats and a litter of four kittens for whom we found good homes. Sadly enough they all were run over by cars. I also travel a lot and that is a reason not to take another cat.
    Thanks for sharing yours!
    Have a sunny week, Di!

  11. Hildred: Hello, how sweet that your husband's cat transferred affections when he died.
Cat's are very perceptive, whilst Chloe lies all over me, and in bed too, but she keeps a sensible distance from hubby as he's a bit allergic to her, She sits by his side and often follows him around, he feeds her and changes her litter tray for me.
I do know he genuinely loves as I do, we are lucky to have such an affectionate cat.
    Best wishes,
    Di xx

  12. Hi Liz,
I always had a dog along with a cat but when I met Ian he became desperately allergic to dogs so I just stuck with cats.
    You've got you gorgeous retriever
    George and I'm so envious!
That's why Chloe is so spoiled!

Glad you've got 2 rescue cats, I'd love to do that but Chloe is so spoiled she's too old for change now.

  14. Hi Roger,
Cat's has been such a hit but I agree that the second part is better.
    I love Macavity the cat...

We had a Prime Minister, (former Chancellor of the Exchequer), who was nick named Macavity, because whenever there was a problem and his hand prints were all over it, invariably he would disappear until the dust settled!
He was only PM for a short time then got booted out !

    Best wishes,

Hi Ellen good to hear from you. If cats jump into your lap it's a indication that you must be a kind and loving person, cat's are very perceptive...this a sign that must go to the rescue centre and whichever jumps on your lap first is yours!
    Good idea? ha ha !
    Bet wishes,

  18. Hi Wil, so good to hear from you again.
I don't know why but I had you down as a cat lover, difficult to leave though, when you travel lot.
for that reason we only short I week breaks.
Then, two of our daughters who live nearby, pop in and spend time with Chloe and feed her, this way we don't have to unsettle her by putting her in a cattery and she always seems quite happy, she sleeps about 18 hrs a day, then she has the run of the house.
Also, she likes to potter around the garden for about half an hour if the weather is warm and sunny.
    hates wind and cold!
A day in the life of of a very much cherished cat.

    Happy Weekend Dear
    Wil,
    stay warm,
    Best wishes,

  21. Hi Anita, good to hear from you.
I don't think I'd like to have nine lives, I'm feeling the pinch now so I don't think I'd like to do it all over again, never mind nine times.

    Happy weekend,

  22. Hello Gattina,
Four cats...wow! that's a lot of mouths to feed but lovely to have so many furry friends.
I couldn't get another cat now, Chloe is so set in her ways I don't think she would adapt to change now.
Very cold here and threatening snow...Brrrr.
I guess it should warm where you are.

  24. It's pretty clear that Princess Chloe is clearly pretty.

Our household is watched over by the Molly the Cat. Until she came in our lives, none of us thought about having a cat, especially one that lived in the house. Don't know how we ever lived without a cat before.

Your cat Molly a lovely cat, pretty too. I wonder does she watch over The Mama when's climbing up trees to prune them?
It certainly makes me smile when I read of her antics on your blog.
She sure is agile for her years!
Glad you think Chloe is pretty, we do too. We got her as a tiny kitten, she was so tiny she could sit in the palm of my husband's hand.

  31. Our cat, Diva, is an old girl who was adopted in a rescue. Don't have the heart to spring any "friends" on her, as she lived her whole life as Big Kitty On The Walk. Wouldn't have it any other way. She is great company and so funny. Love the Practical Cats, was a fan long before the show. Diva is 13, but she calls it "Experienced, you know, like Madonna." Hee hee, Amy and glad you were on ABC Weds.

  33. Sharp little pencil:
Hi, thanks for stopping by and your comments. Love your cat's name, Diva, most appropriate for a lady cat. Our cat Chloe is quite a diva too!
Our next door neighbours, who have Chloe's two brothers and whereas they spend their time hunting mice in the woods Miss Chloe is curled up in front of a roaring log fire or on my lap, At night she goes to bed at the same time as us, sleeps on her kitty blanket at the end of our bed, She wakes husband at about 7am for her breakfast, then if it's a nice day will sit on the patio step surveying her micedom....
Woe betide either of her brothers if they dare to put a paw on her domain, she'll hurl herself at them like a ball of shrieking, spitting tumbleweed.
When she's seen them off she will resume her position on her look out station and meticulously groom herself, as if remove any trace of her mucky brothers!
Aye, she has a grand life,
    does Princess Chloe !

    best wishes,

Hello again, thanks for stopping by., so good to hear from you.
Chloe, when the weather is warm, will sit at the end of the garden for ages looking for mice that live under the shed.
She usually brings one in, once per year! She'd never earn her living as a mouser!

Chloe is aging well, put it down her lavish lifestyle...lots of fresh fish and she loves prawns too.

  40. Your Princess Chloe is Captivating! I was bitten once by a cat. She didn't want me to leave the apartment after a visit to take care of her while her human vacationed. We had curled up on the couch in front of the TV for an hour-long cuddle, but when I walked to the door, she flew at me and sank her teeth into my leg. I had two rather deep puncture wounds but they did eventually heal. I still love cats, but gained a healthy appreciation for their quick and less predictable/readable natures than dogs have. Or, at least I became aware that I understood dogs' cues better. We had a very independent cat that lived to the age of 20 when I was growing up, but she was the only one I had the privilege of knowing well. I hope Chloe lives to be at least that old. "Memory" is one of my favorite songs. Through the years, I had a few wonderful soloists in school choirs who modeled their performances on Elaine Page's. One thing for sure, you could write many more posts on this subject. I'm betting your responses would be just as numerous and lengthy :) And finally, must thank you for the wonderful comment about opera singers. For some reason, I wasn't at all surprised that we have that love in common. You inspired me to listen again to the Pearl Fishers duet. In fact, it is playing as I write. Thank you for that!

Hi Carol, thanks for dropping by and your kind comments.
Sorry to read of the errant cat biting you....Talk about 'biting the hand that feeds you'!
It's difficult to remonstrate with cats, Chloe has her moments and is not averse to giving me the odd nip, she likes to lick my hand when she's sitting on my lap, if I move it away, she'll nip me...naughty girl!
We do seem to have similar tastes in music. pleased you're listening to 'The pearl Fishers', wonderful music.
I'm doing the introduction this week for the letter D so I best get a move on or I shall have Roger chasing me,
    Bye for now,
