A New Grandchild

Our daughter Ingrid has given birth to a beautiful baby boy on Wednesday 14th January 2009.
His name is Christian and weighed in at 5lbs.1oz.
He was born 8 weeks prematurely and was in the high dependency unit until yesterday.
He is now out of the incubator and in his own cot and doing very well.

The birth was very traumatic as Ingrid haemorrhaged and the Doctors had to perform a C section to save her life.

Ingrid is a lot better now, she had to have several blood transfusions to bring her blood count up.

I cannot begin to tell you how relieved we all are, this has been a terribly worrying time.

Christian is a little brother for Olivia aged 2years 9months.

  3. Congratulations all round!

My cousin suffered similarly with her boy, and it was an incredibly worrying situation for all concerned. Glad it all turned out OK.

  5. Good luck to them all.

The only problem with Christian as a name, it seems to me, is that he might want to become a Buddhist later in life, or (heaven forbid) a Mohammedan or a Hebie.

We have mates who christened their son Christian decades ago. He has always been known as Boy, for some reason.

    Good to hear from you.

Should Christian take 'holy orders', he'll have choose a more suitable name!
His full title is Christian Zane, so I guess he has options!
Chris Zane Ali has a certain ring to it don't you think?

So pleased to hear from you. Yes it all was very scary at the time, a bit like a roller coaster ride. I knew the baby was well as he was delivered in three minutes but we wern't sure about ingrid, she was in theatre for three hours. She's had a few glitches but getting better by the day.

Hi. I'm not at all surprised at your 'nerves', it is a bit scary when babies are due...particularly for the Dads'. my son-in-law has been a tower of strength to my daughter and has been looking after little Olivia so well, he's a star.
Hope all is well with your family and baby to be born.x

  27. Hello Philipa, good to hear from you again.
Christian's Great Grandfather was Chris Zane Christianson. His family were Norweigan settlers who were Ranchers in Alberta Canada. The family still have the Ranch.
Our youngest daughter Astrid went out to visit them 3 years ago.
Chris Zane was named Zane after the writer Zane grey who wrote novels about Cowboys and was related to the Christiansons in some way.

Hi Liz, thanks for your kind wishes, Ingrid and Christian are both doing well but will be in hospital for at least another week.
I can't publish pictures I'm afraid as my daughter's are so PC and do not approve! sad but true!
They were horrified when they found out I had my own blog site and were convinced that i was going to be spirited away in a 'granny smuggling ring'!

    Hope Harvey is behaving,

  31. Ooh I thought it was a possibility and wrote it out but deleted it. Zane Grey kindof inspired the Lone Ranger didn't he?

Anyway I won't dwell on why I deleted it but glad to know all well and happy :-)

  32. Hi Tuscers; Lovely to hear from you and thanks for your good wishes.

  34. Hi Philipa:
I'm not sure about Zane Grey inspiring the Lone Ranger series, good possibility though, considering the nature of his writing.
You may recall me writing about my ex when he died in 2007, his name was Michael Zane Christianson, so the name sort of lives on, although Chritian Zane will take his father's surname.
