E for Euphemisms.

A Euphemism is the substitution of a mild, indirect or vague term for one to be considered harsh, blunt or offensive.

This is sometimes called double speak.

More Euphemisms.
You aren't poor you are economically disadvantaged.
You aren't broke you have temporary negative cash flow problems.
Just as you sit down to dinner, drat! the blessed phone goes, it's a call from a poltical party wanting to know which way you're going to vote.
This is known as a courtesy call, only courtesy has little to do with it .....it's just 'Effing' annoying. (apologies for the Ef )but it does begin with 'E'.
If you say you were 'Economical with truth', well that means you've just told a whopper!

 Remember Pinocchio ?
He was a little boy puppet who turned into a real boy. However he was told by the Blue Fairy that he was to be truthful, polite and honest at all time....so she cast a spell upon him, so if at any time he told a lie his nose would grow.....
Needless to say, he did get himself into spots of bother and subsequently his nose did grow, as you can see by the illustration, rather large.
If only the Blue Fairy could cast the same spell on all polticians, now that would be fun !

Cartoon by courtesy of The US News.
Note to my American friends: Pay special attention to Trump's nose over the coming weeks, the Blue Fairy is hovering.
I'm quite Exhausted now so I will sign out now, looking forward to reading some Excellent memes when good old linky kicks in later

    1. Glad I made you laugh dear friend, we all need to have a good laugh at times. I'm not an habitual user of bad language but some times the one 'eff' does have an effect, of course if used in the right time.
I once worked for the most impossible boss, in the stocktaking fraternity...he just pushed me to the edge and instead of saying I despised his behaviour and particularly to the younger office juniors...A hideous white rage came over me ... I cleared my desk, put all my papers etc in my briefcase... and by now I was incandescent with rage and just shouted at him 'F' you and 'F' your job...I stormed out of the building..... The little office manager came scurrying after me and begged me to come back, he said not to do this because I could be sacked.... I did go back and into the Ladies washroom, apparently, I washed my hands about five times...then walked back into a very busy but quiet office..said boss strolled up to my desk and said'You know Di, you shouldn't things so personally......Grrr but that is another story i should write about...oh the joys of writing on ABCW..xxx
      love Di.

    1. You are so right Carin,
I once had a boss who told me she was 'going to let
me go', when i dared to disagree withe her at an important
meeting..I told her I was going nowhere, I immediately called the Director of the company, who had hired me and he had plans for me to move to a higher position, which he immediately implemented. I then went to work at the company head office thus becoming the boss of the 'bitch boss'... I don't think she liked me very much because soon after i hadto 'let her go' what is the euphemism 'revenge is a dish better serve cold! She was a dreadful manager and terrorised her staff on a daily basis.

  14. Trump's nose is so big it's hiding the White House. Could that be a euphemism? Great post, Di. First time for me to think of euphemisms as double speak. Must've been another day I didn't pay attention in class. Hahahaha. By the way Trump speaks, he probably missed that lesson, too. Hugs, Di.

    1. Ha ha! Su-sieeee!
Along with his over sized ego, the man is incorrigible, he just doesn't listen to anybody just full of wind and hot air ! I give him 100 days.
Our lady Prime Minister Teresa May won't have any messing from him that's for sure!
Wait and see...or no way do I speak in Euephemisms !
      Touch for that Trump!.
If somebody in the UK says "I've just Trumped" (usually a giggling child) it means I've just farted! (a slang word)
Therefore his name is most appropiate.
Trump.... full of wind and hot air. Trump is also a euphemism for passing wind or in other words farting !
      Best regards and hugs,

    1. Hi there Lindy Lou.
So good to hear from you and thank you too for your kind comments regarding 'my way with words'... I do love the English language and the literatiure and poetry. Also I love the French language,,,They love to use the subjunctive which make their sentences longer but then there is almost a double explaination of what one is saying, (that is, of course, in my opinion).
      best regards,
