HOMER.
"Hateful to me as the gates of Hades
is that the man who hides one
Thing in his heart and speaks another".
In several of the 'classics'
'HADES' is often referred to as The Gates of Hell.
The HIPPOPOTAMUS.
by Ogden Nash.
Behold The Hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks at us,
And yet in moments dark and grim,
I wonder how we look too him.
Peace, thou hippopotamus, !
We really look alright to us, As you no doubt delight the eye
Of the other hippopotami.
The Hippopotamus.
by Jack Prelusky.
The huge Hippopotamus hasn't a hair
on the back of his wrinkly hide;
he carries the bulk of his prominent hulk
assembled loosely inside.
The huge Hippopotamus lives without a care
at a slow philosophical pace,
as he wades in the mud with a thump and a thud
and a permanent grin on his face.
A smiling hippopotamus.
In my imagination these Happy Hippos are dancing 'The Bump', when in reality they are part of the troop of Hippos dancing to the 'Dance of the Hours' by Toscanini in Disney's Fantasia !
HAPPY HIPPOS' HAVING an HILLARIOUS time....
Dancing 'The Bump'
To finish.
A HEART warming moment as a very
HAPPY little girl with her HANDSOME friend.....
HUMPHREY the Camel....as they share an HILLARIOUS moment....
I wonder what caused this HAPPY moment?
<HAPPY> < HAPPY> <HAPPY>
My thanks to Denise, for creating ABCW, with her HEART warming tales of,
HOMELY life in Liverton, Village Yorkshire
Also to Roger for the HELPFUL and HUMOROUS way in which he dilgently visits every post each week, this must take up a lot of his time!
He also deals with the HELPERS who work HARMONIOUSLY to keep ABCW up and running.
My sincere best wishes to each and every one,

Hi there...
ReplyDeleteI like those big animals too but always keep a safe distance because i know how dangerous they realy are... I do enjoy watching them though!
And yes that is one the things that makes me happy....watching animals having fun and being happy!
Melody (abc-w-team)
ooooohhh....you start out hellishly grim but leave us with hilarity! That hippo sure had me smiling! Thx for your comments on my post - it was just something I had to write! I'm getting much better but the hatred still pokes at me sometimes. *Le sigh*

Wonderful H post Di!
ReplyDeleteThe last photo of the girl and camel is priceless. How can you look at it without smiling!
I've seen the picture of the happy little girl before and I LOVE it, sheer joy is on her face. Hippos are so homely--they are cute.

thanks for sharing two poets I enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGreat post - besides being happy dancers hippos must be muses too, - there are all sorts of little ditties about them, but I do like Ogden Nash's best.
ReplyDeleteHi, Di. When I was a young thing living in San Francisco once-upon-a-time, I sometimes dined at the Hippopotamus Hamburger Restaurant. I liked the drawings of the hippo. So darn cute. I wonder now if the dancing hippos were the inspiration for the owner.
ReplyDeleteHi Susie,
ReplyDeleteI believe the dancing hippos are from Disney's Fantasia, I just though, caliing them the Dancing Hippos, doing 'The Bump' would be a most suitable dance,
for two large lumbering hippos! (with apologies to Disney) of course!
Best wishes,
Di.
ABCW team.
Loved reading the poems and I like how you do it for the ABC series.
ReplyDeleteHappy ABCW!
taught my students today about the Greedy Hippo.
ReplyDeleteHi Di, such an amusing post. I love the last one with the little girl. I have seen it before too, but still brings a smile to me. Take care love Anne x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post. The hippo reminds me how my family laugh at me because I could not say the word the right away. I am from the Philippines. At least I can spell it right, I think. :)
ReplyDeleteMelody, thanks for dropping by and your kind comments.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd be in a great rush to HUG a HIPPO though!

Hippos are endlessly fascinating as your poems prove. Love that little girls expression, that would lighten up any day.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeleteFab aren't they, Hippo's just fascinate me.
I've seen that picture the little girl all over the
net and when I was looking for Hippo pics, there she was!
I've no idea where it was taken, must do some research!
Best wishes,
Di,
ABCW team.
This is one happy post. The transition from grumpy hippo to smiling one and finally a pic that would bring smiles even on a gloomy face. Is that camel actually laughing or some photo trick?
ReplyDeleteHello Ira,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and your kind comments.
I just love Hippos but wouldn't dare to get too
near to one. I like their colouring, the seem to
have a pink hue.
The picture of the little girl I believe to be genuine
as I've actually seen lots of camels in North Africa
and they sure do pull some funny faces; Rather like
horses.
Best wishes,
Di.
