G stands for Gocek

Gocek in Turkey.

is a lovely little village on the edge of a yachting marina . The bay is surrounded by verdant forests that run right down to the water. It's hard to imagine so much greenery in such a hot country.

The Turkish cuisine.

Pide Turkish type Pizza with fragrant minced lambAssorted Mezzes usually eaten as a light meal or appetizer.

A local lady preparing Pide which is a Turkish pizza with finely minced lamb and fragrant herbs and spices, simple and so delicious.

A market stall selling fragrant herbs and spices, I always used to stock up when visiting.

The beautiful ceramics, many hand painted and glazed.

Whenever I think of Turkey I think of colour and fragrant smells, I have many dishes and bowls that I 've collected over the years.

This holiday was primarily a 'chill out' holiday as we both had been working very hard, me in a busy stockbroking office and Ian as a Senior Account Executive for a national tele- communications company.

We spent our time tootling around the village markets and dining on the wonderful  Turkish cuisine.

Gocek Islands.

Traditional Turkish Gulets.

We took a cruise around the Gulf of Gocek   stopping from time to time to swim in the turquoise waters. We sunbathed on the deck, chatted to the other guest and had a delicious lunch of mezzes, grilled fish and local white wine.

A wonderful day out.

Turkey is a country forever etched in my heart I shall never forget all the wonderful holidays we've had there.

My gratitude to the glamorous Denise for devising ABCW also to Roger our genial administrator for his gigantic efforts in keeping us on our toes!

  6. Hi Ellen, thanks for stopping by and your comments.
The food is amazing, maybe because, so many other countries have either invaded or traded there, they have left a taste of their particular cuisine.
This is the good thing about ABCW, I too have enjoyed visiting all over the US and Canada, the Far East and Europe.

    Best wishes,
    Di.

  8. Cherry Pie, good to hear from you again.
Turkey has so many facets and 'chill out' is certainly one of them.
We had one or two beach holidays then started to go further afield to discover it's history and amazing culture,
You'd love it Cherrie, particularly the photo opportunities at the ancient sites.

  10. Hildred,
Hello, good to hear from you again and thanks for your kind comments.
Visiting Turkey really is an adventure, I wish I could return but my health is not good enough to do all that travelling.
Never mind, I still have all the wonderful memories.

  12. Hi Rajesh, thanks for stopping by and your comments, I have to tell you the shots are amazing and so realistic but I scoured the internet to put this together,
The times when we visited Turkey our snapshots were mainly taken with a pre digital camera but I have a drawer full of matching gorgeous shots along with the negatives.
I think there may be a way to transfer negatives on to a PC but I'm not sure how to do it?

    best wishes,

  16. Until I read your post, I have not associated forests, islands, and brilliant colors with Turkey. It's time for me to explore more. Thank you for the nudge.

Yes the markets in Turkey and other eastern places are very colourful. I also love the food markets in France for the array of beautiful fruit and vegetables together with every imaginable flavour of cheese.

  18. Su-sieee,
    Thanks for stopping by
    and your comments.
Turkey is a country of many faces, the central parts can be a bit dry and dusty but all along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts it has various mountain ranges and forests providing a dramatic verdant backdrop.
Also there are lots of small islands dotted along the coastline, in the gorgeous turquoise waters.
I'm glad it's captured your interest.

  20. Gattina,
I can't tell you how delighted I am that you share my love of Turkey.
I've written before that we've been to many places, off the beaten track, in Turkey, but not too far East, because of the political unrest, which has been a tinderbox for as long as I can remember.
My greatest regret is not being able to visit Istanbul, we had a trip organised to go there then it was cancelled because of terrorist activity.. a few bombs had already gone off, so it just put us off after that.
Now I'm just not fit enough to travel too far without medical insurance, so we either travel the UK, or maybe another of my favourite countries, France.... we'll see ....

    Best wishes,
