Mrs Nesbitt's space

Exactly one week ago today, we actually met Denise from 'Mrs Nesbitt's Space' Blog Site. As arranged, we called in on our way home from our trip to Northumberland.

What a warm welcome we received too!

Aye, there's nowt like Yorkshire hospitality!

It was quite a long drive from Berwick on Tweed to the tiny village of Liverton, in North Yorkshire, but so worth it to meet Denise.
As instructed, I phoned Denise to say we had arrived in the village; Apparently, all the houses in the village have the same Post Code, just to confuse the nice lady on Sat Nav !
We turned into Denise's lane and there she was, standing in the middle of it, waving an enormous Union Jack. I roared with laughter as she flagged us down....I felt like royalty, particularly as close friends call me 'Lady Di'....
We met the hens, May, Bev, Margie, Eva, Olwyn and my God Daughter hen, Mabel.
Freida the Alsation was particularly pleased to meet us and gave us both a jolly good licking.
We didn't really meet the other Alsation Elsie, as she has behavioural problems and is not averse to taking a chunk out of you, when she pleases. Apparently she is a one man dog and adores Denise's husband, Jon.
Unfortunately we were too late to meet Jon but will do one day soon, when they come down to Liverpool.
Elsie was a rescue dog, I do think it particularly brave and kind of Denise and John in doing this, anyone else may have given up on her, particularly as she gave Denise a nasty bite on her lip.
We were served us a delicious lunch of Chilli Beef, Curried Vegetables with lovely large, Yorkshire, baked potatoes, smothered in butter....Absolutely delicious. To follow she had made especially, for moi, my favourite cake....Lemon Drizzle.
We sat and chatted and laughed, it was if we had known each other for ages!
Eventually, we said our goodbyes and left for the second part of our journey home.
As we were leaving Denise presented us with, six delicious new laid eggs from the hens, each with the hen's name on it, a goody bag containing two delicious hand made beef pies, from her local butcher, a bag of the scrummy yorkshire potatoes, that we sampled earlier and, last but not least, was a little China spoon rest with a hen painted on it.
Such kindness, particularly as Denise knows how much I love new laid eggs.
The china spoon rest, takes pride of place beside the kettle, in my kitchen, so each time I have a 'cuppa', I am reminded of our meeting, and smile to myself!
The Meat pies, were delicious and were devoured, with baked potatoes and mushy peas for supper, when we arrived home.
Thank you, so much, Denise, for making our meeting such a memorable occasion. It was surely 'The Icing on the Cake', after our delightful holiday in Northumberland....which I am just about to write about.....Watch this space!

  5. Leslie; I am still smiling inwardly at the sight of Denise waving the huge Union Jack when we arrived and such hospitality too...I am hoping that she and John will be able to get over to see us soon, she's wonderful company and so humourous too, I omitted to write about her range, Aga type cooker and her lovely kitchen that really is taking shape..
I've got to get cracking on the visit to Northumberland too, it's such a wonderful County so I shall have to write about it soon before I forget and, particularly for Cherrypie, as it was Cheryl who introduced us to the place where we stayed.....Watch this space!

  6. Cherrypie: Hello Cheryl, we really did have a wonderful time, as i said, 'Meeting Denise, really was the icing on the cake'!
I'm about to write about our trip to Northumberland, just in case you think I'd forgotten!
It's such a magical and historically interesting place, I feel I must write with care, particularly as you have written, so eloquently about it already...
    Again watch this space!

  7. Gel: Hello and welcome to my site, Yes I keep smiling when i think of Denise waving her giant Union Jack....such spotanaity...When I phoned to say we had arrived in the village she gave us instuctions on how to find her, I jokingly said, 'You'd better wave a big flag so we can see you', and...Lo and behold! There she was, in the middle of the lane, waving her flag....Hillarious!

I've just been over to your site but am a little confused as to how to access it, Sadly, I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to anything that wavers from the norm..Help, I'd love to read it.
I wonder if, perhaps, you are a friend of Leslie?
Looking forward to hearing from you,

  9. Flowerpot; It was a meeting I shall treasure for ever. As I'm often housebound, being able to talk to people via my PC has opened up new horizons for me. Hopefully we will meet Leslie (The Pedalogue), when she comes over from Vancouver, next year, It's just marvellous to be able to meet the person behind the name on the blog site, Who knows we may be able to meet up next time we take a trip to the West Country!
By then you could be an acclaimed novelist!

  12. Hi Thud, yes it was a long journey for a decent slice of cake, but I did get to meet Denise and all her animals and of course 6 delicious new laid, free range eggs. a bag of spuds, 2 delicious hand made steak pies and a very pretty china spoon rest. Yes definitely worth the visit.
Denise is well tuned into the 'Scouse', sense of humour, so it was a good visit, all round. They're going to come and visit us soon, so, I will return the hospitality and make a good ol' pan of Scouse for their lunch'!

  13. What a wonderful time you had. I'm ashemed to say I've only been to Yorkshire once. I know what Denise and family are going through with their rescue dog as I once had a similar exoerience. I persevered and he gave me a lot of love - but was so protective he would never let anyone else near me! Wouldn't it be great if we could all meet one day? Love from Simi and me xx

  14. Hello Welshcakes, lovely to hear from you, yes it was great to meet Denise and to enjoy her hospitality. It really would be a joy for us all to meet up....Who knows, Somewhere, some day... Ha ha! Sounds like I'm about to burst into song, you know the one from West Side Story...'There's a place for us'...tra la la!
Te he! You'll be humming that all day now.
Denise and John are so kind to take in Rescue Dogs and particularly 'naughty knickers' Elsie, they've not given up on her even though, Denise still bears a small scar on her lip, after Elsie bit her, We did get to meet her, I managed to stroke her, but then Denise thought it wise, to put her in another room.
Freida is a lovely dog,so we had lots of strokes and tickles with her instead of Elsie....Poor Elsie, nevermind, they'll get there with her, just takes time and patience, which, it seems, they have plenty of!
Hope you and darling Simi are well and happy...I shall be writing about our trip to Northumberland soon, so....Watch this space!

When we meet Leslie and co, perhaps you may like to come along too, it would be great to meet you....
Just finding a suitable venue now as we're all so far spread, to say nothing of Pat(IWelshcakes), in Sicily, saying she'd like to meet up with us all too.
That really would be terrific too....I live and dream!

Hope your ankle is fully mended, it seems such along time since you had your accident, it's taken a good chunk out of your life...Poor you, anyway, take care,

  18. Happy Christmas to you and yours, Trubes.

I'm afraid the only natural produce we could offer you from our garden is some dandelions and a turd from next door's dog who keeps jumping over.

    xx

  19. Sounds like a very enjoyable visit, Trubes. Personally I can't think of anything more revolting than being licked by a dog. But the food sounds wonderful and the welcome warm. So glad you had a lovely day out x
