Two Baptisms and One Wedding.

On Saturday 4th July 2009 our darling Daughter Ingrid married her long time love and partner of 12 years Michael.
The following day their two lovely babies were baptised into the Roman Catholic Church, Olivia Grace aged 3 and Christian Zane aged 6 months.

At the wedding, Ingrid was given away by her Step-Daddy, my beloved Darling Trubes.
Certainly brought tears to my eyes when DT walked her down the aisle.
Olivia was the chief bridesmaid and Christian was the best man. The Registrar commented that Christian was the youngest best man that he could ever recall.
The ceremony was particularly moving, bearing in mind Christian's traumatic arrival in January.

When the ceremony was over Olivia danced down the aisle swinging on her parents arms and Christian exercised his perogative, as babies do, and slept soundly.
He was, however, awake during the proceedings, and tried to join in on one occasion, only to be unceremoniously carried off by an auntie, for refuelling!

The Reception was held in a local hall, which started with an advance party for 35 children to celebrate the forthcoming Baptisms.
A childrens' entertainer was there keeping them occupied...really great fun, (honestly).
It's amazing how a glass of champers or six charges the spirits. All the children went home at 7pm and the adults carried on with the celebrations.

A truly perfect day for a perfectly matched couple.

Next day Olivia and Christian were welcomed into the church with their four Aunties as Godparents.
Although I was raised in the Church of England, I truly felt a strong calling to the Roman Catholic faith. The service was inspiring.

Who knows? A conversion could be in order!

Afterwards we celebrated, yet again, with a barbecue and .......yes you've guessed....more Champagne....Absolutely fabulous!....hic..

  2. Congrats seem to be in order all round.

I checkied the Liverpool Echo online to see if there were any reports of disturbances following a weekend of champagne drinking by many Catholic Scousers.

Looks like you got away with it.

  3. Welcome back Trubes!!!!

It's so nice to see you up at the top of my blog list again - and with the sort of really good story we've come to expect of you.

  5. Hi Blue Eyes, Thankyou for your kind wishes, good to hear from you.x

Hello Idle, Thank you for your congrats.
So pleased you took the time to 'checkied' the Liverpool Echo for reports of disturbances at the Liverpool 'Society Wedding' of the year.
I am pleased to report that all went well until the Priest left.
You may read all about it in the Society section of the Bootle
    Times next week.

  6. Hello my dear friend Mr Lakelander, I am flattered by your kind words, (blush blush).
Fancy dear Idle thinking that there may have been disturbances at the 'do', he really doesn't know how the creme de la creme of Liverpool society behave.
There wasn't a shell suit in sight and the wearing of flip flops was prohibited.
All tattoos had to be covered including the bride and groom's matching hearts and arrows.

  7. Hello my dear Scrobs, Good to hear from you and thankyou for your kind comments.
Although I was raised as an Anglican, I have always been drawn to the Roman Catholic Church.
I can't stand the 'happy clapper' ethos that prevails in the Cof E at present and the divisions amongst the clergy.

  8. A very very heart warming post....and as a Catholic what can I say, but welcome and God bless to the little ones, I do love a happy ending.

  9. I don't know what happened with that rogue typo 'checkied', but the more I say it, the more it sounds like genuine Liverpool patois (as delivered by Harry Enfield, of course).

  10. Oh my goodness, you've had some few months of worry and joy!

Congrats on the safe arrival of baby Christian and congrats to Ingrid and her hubby on their marriage. Also to them on the baptism of the two children.

You must be over the moon now with joy! I can feel it in your words.

And yes, we're both over the moon here with joy on our engagement. Better late than never, I say. I think the nuptials will be September of 2010 - so much to do and not enough time to get it all done. Just last night Lorne was saying a small wedding at home and then 2 weeks in Tuscany! I'm all for that!!! :D

Like you I love a good party. We certainly know how to celebrate in Scouseland. Ironically, later on in the evening when the buffet had been demolished, Scouse was served for supper!
Hope all is well in California.

  22. Wow! what a lovely time you must have had - it is so lovely to get friends and family around and celebrate the good times. Especially when you've been through the bad times, you know how to make the most of, and appreciate, the good things in life.

    Including champagne...

  23. Sounds like a truly joyous time was had by all in two perfect ceremonies. I'm so glad all went well, congrats to all.

  24. Trubes, how lovely. You are all loved up. I hope you had some very heavy duty mascara.

Don't the RC church regard your gorgeous grandchildren as miserable sinners? Just a thought. Having said that the Anglican churches all play the hymns with the wrong tune so it is no fun anymore. The Pagans have the right idea: sex is not sinful. Mind you the blokes tend to have heavy beards so it can be rough on the face.

  25. Hello Anne, lovely to hear from you and thanks for your kind wishes.
Ingrid and Mike moved back 'oop north'4 years ago with the intention of settling in to their new home then getting married the year after.
However, Olivia arrived 10months later delaying their plans.
The 'on hold' wedding was rearranged for the following year....and lo and behold Christian arrived!
Not to be thwarted, they arranged
Wedding No.3, giving us 6 weeks
    notice.
Little did we imagine, 4 years ago, when the original wedding was arranged, that we would have Olivia and Christian's Baptism to attend too as well.
    Marvellous.

Hello Pippy, Thanks for your kind wishes. I could never have imagined, all those years ago, that two of our three little girls would give us 4 gorgeous garandchildren. (Youngest daughter still yet to produce).

  27. Hi Lils, Thanks for your kind comments.
Happily the RC Church welcomed the children with open arms.
The Priest wanted to marry Ingrid and Mike but they opted for a civil ceremony as there wasn't enough time to arrange a church wedding.
Ingrid is Anglican (non practising) so would have to take lessons, and perhaps convert, if she so desires.
I don't think they wanted to wait any longer. They probably will have another small ceremony later on.

  28. My niece had her confirmation into the Catholic faith recently. My mum said of the photo shoot with the priest surrounded by kids "Oh ! Such a beautiful scene. I do hope he's not a pervert."

You describe a brilliant day here, Trubes.

  29. Hello Kevin, Good to hear from you, thanks for your good wishes, Yes, it was a truly wonderful weekend particularly after Christian's traumatic birth in January.
I think the reason why I am so inspired by the RC Church is the reverence and sanctity during the services. I loathe 'happy clappy born again stuff' with a passion. Due to this I fell out with the Anglican Church.
Shockingly Child molestation is not confined to the RC Church. I can recall many such cases in my childhood of two child and youth leaders in my Church being involved in such deplorable activities.
In those days it was all hushed up and those involved disappeared from the church activities.

  31. Trubes...pervs,sinners and whatever..they are all creations of man,the church is eternal and if you find peace in the service then enjoy. I find solace in the R.C.ritual (non clappy)plus service in paddy's wigwam is special in so many ways.

  32. Hello Thud,
You are quite right and more to the point, there are child abusers in all walks of life, this depraved and often violent behaviour, more than often takes place within the family home.
I've been to the Metropolitan Cathedral a few times and absolutely love the interior but find the exterior strange...Hence the Padddies Wigwam label.
Aye, you can't beat the Scouse sense of humour!

  35. Ah, late to the party - pity (for me)!
Hello, Trubes, what a lovely happy post. It all sounds glorious and ecstatically tearful. A day you'll all remember always - and rightly so. Love the descriptions, full of joy & love.
Erm, high church Anglican here: ritual, choral settings, bells, smells - bring 'em on! Also radical, love having women priests (+ perfectly relaxed about women bishops). Best PP I ever knew was gay ('married' to partner, to boot - parishioners stuck noses in air & behaved as if all perfectly normal, was a delight as well as a hoot!)
Golly, this is beginning to sound like a rant/sermon - and it's not meant to be, honest.I look forward to reading more about you.
Amities & blessings from Nice, P

  36. Hello Phidelm, Thanks for comments, good to hear from you.
Sadly 'high Church of England' barely exists here, as I mentioned the C.of.E. is swamped with Evangelical, happy clapping drips..
    I loathe the whole scenario.
I used to sing in the local Church choir and the choral works and Psalms etc that we sang were divine.
Lucky you, living in Nice, we have been holidaying in Antibes for the last couple of years, I love France and would dearly love to live there if it wasn't for my children and grandchildren, I would miss them so much.
I have been enjoying reading your blog, you are now on my list of favourites...such an honour, indeed! Ha!

  37. It's not just the CofE. We had someone start to clap in our church once. It lasted about one second and then the Old Singles turned around to see who it was. That was the last time anyone clapped.

I have been known, however, to start up the chorus of a rousing song from the back of the church though every now and then. Just to prove to people that I actually get there on time.

funny enough, the word verification was 'himmen' - which could have been old english for singing hymns. Or a male hymen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Or even 'harmen' as in amen Mermies.
My problem, when it comes to Religion, is, that I love sacred music and find it very inspiring and uplifting. I love the peace and sanctity of the 'High Church' and the Roman Catholic Church, hence being torn between the two.
    'Schism rent asunder'...to quote!
That was a line from a favourite old school hymn which also included the lines ' God is love, God is peace, God is beauty,
praise him....sing aloud loud loud tra la la...etc.
Oops! Mermie I've gone off into one again, (very rousing though)!
